for 38 years he was mainly principal timpani player of the Yomiuri Japan Symphony Orchestra. He released percussion solo CDs "Jun Sugawara/Pulse of Trees and Skins" and "Flowers and Stars". He presides over the percussion ensembles "Percussion Museum" and "Percussion Gallery".
is currently a visiting professor at Tokyo College of Music and a visiting professor at Showa University of Music.
