Detailed Information

Performance content Takayoshi Nakai started in 2009 with a bold approach to making Ozu films into reading performances. The performance performed by
pianist Mineaki Matsumoto is called "Sound Storytelling" and is currently performed nationwide. Director Yasujiro Ozu

was a matchmaker for his parents before he was a world-class filmmaker that everyone knew, and he was also a memory of being loved from an early age. In 2007, at the Ozukai festival held on the anniversary of the director's death, Mr. Shizuo Yamauchi, a former Shochiku-Ozugumi producer with whom I had a close friendship since childhood, suggested to Nakai that he would like to read something like a director's essay, and that he should read the script for the film.

Mr. Yamauchi, who was 83 years old, tackled the difficult task of making Ozu's film a work of reading with exceptional concentration and passion, and established a completely new style in which he riched the film script into a reading script and Takayoshi Nakai talked about various roles alone, including not only the cast but also the writing. To top of that, Mineaki Matsumoto added a visual performance to complete "Sound Narrative" together with Takayoshi Nakai.

Since "Late Spring," which premiered in 2008, he has produced six films: "Akihiwa," "Tokyo Story," "Soon," "The Taste of Autumn Sword Fish," and "Wheat Autumn." When we performed at Kita-Kamakura-Engaku-ji Temple (Kamakura Arts Festival), Tateshina Kogen Film Festival, Koishiba Cultural Center, etc., we listened to the talk corner with Takayoshi Nakai "Talking about the Memories of Yasujiro Ozu" and the bare face of
Ozu and his valuable stories from the time of shooting.

The reading series "Listening to Yasujiro Ozu's Films," which has been performed in various places, will also celebrate its 70th performance this time.

With unspeakable gratitude to Shizuo Yamauchi, who passed away on August 15, 2021 at the age of 96, we will hold a memorial performance "Sound Narrative| Taste of Autumn Sword Fish - Listening to Yasujiro Ozu's Movie" in Kamakura, which Shizuo Yamauchi loved.

was unable to hold the event due to the corona pandemic, so this is the first performance in three years since the 10th anniversary of the sound narrative in the fall of 2019 (Waseda University Ono Memorial
5-day performance in the auditorium).

I would like to express my sincere gratitude to all the performers and staff for being able to hold a memorial performance.

Performances: The Taste of Autumn Sword Fish *There will be no screening of the film
