"Tokyo Niseikai Concertante Series" has been highly evaluated as a semi-stage format that makes full use of video and lighting, and allows you to enjoy the charm of the music itself. This is the fifth film in the series, following "Norma," "Elodiade," "Samson and Delilah," and "Edgar," and the Japan premiere of R. Strauss's "Peace Day." In one act, the hidden masterpiece in which the music of the late R. Strauss is condensed by a large orchestra is conducted by Quasi Merkl, a world-renowned master who specializes in Strauss. Following "Idomeneo", "Danae's Love" and "Lohengrin", he made his fourth appearance in the Tokyo Niseikai in four years.

<>INTRODUCTION Premiere of the opera "Peace Day" Japan!

The Tokyo Niseikai Concertante Series has been well received for its semi-stage format that makes full use of video and lighting, allowing you to fully enjoy the charm of the music itself. As the fifth film in the series, following "Norma," "Elodiade," "Samson and Delilah," and "Ed Girl," this time we will premiere Richard Strauss's "Peace Day" Japan.

Tokyo Niseikai celebrates its 70th anniversary this year since its founding in 1952. Throughout its long history, it has performed many productions of German composer Richard Strauss's Salome, The Knight of the Roses, and Ariadne of Naxos, as well as the Japan premieres of Helena of Egypt, Daphne, and Danae's Love. And this time, we will introduce "Peace Day", which is valuable to be performed from a global perspective.

1 act, running for about 75 minutes, but with a gorgeous orchestration, this work is a condensed concentrate of the rich music of the late Strauss period, and is recommended not only for opera fans and orchestra fans, but also for opera beginners.

synopsis
17th century. The religious wars had already dragged on for three decades. This is a town besieged by the enemy and running out of food and ammunition. Exhausted soldiers and civilians demand surrender, but the commander, who does not disobey the emperor's orders, inspires the people to continue their desperate fighting. The commander's wife, Maria, mourns the sight of her husband who does not hesitate to commit suicide, but vows to share her fate and embraces each other. Then the sound of cannons rang out. I thought it was finally an all-out attack by the enemy army, but this time the church bells resonated all at once. Maria realizes that it is a "peace bell" and the commander warns that it is a trap for the enemy. Then the mayor appears and announces that a peace treaty has been signed. Finally, the fortress is opened, and enemy soldiers and civilians stand shoulder to shoulder and rejoice in their liberation from war.
