Performance content | Sumida Hokusai Museum of Art Reiwa 5 Special Exhibition "Hokusai: The Great Mountain" Hokusai depicts a variety of mountains, from Mt. Fuji, the Japan largest mountain, to Tempozan, a man-made low mountain built in the Edo period. Long before the advent of modern mountaineering, Japan climbed mountains for faith and livelihood. Through the mountains drawn by Hokusai, we will introduce mountain beliefs, livelihoods, legends and ghost stories, see the relationship between Japan people and mountains, and approach Hokusai's diverse expressions of mountains and their charms. |
