Organizations Overview | The Chiba Symphony Orchestra is the only professional orchestra in Chiba Prefecture, and was renamed the Chiba Symphony Orchestra in October 2016 to continue the 31-year activities of its predecessor, the New Philharmonic Orchestra Chiba, and is now in its 38th year. We perform at about 20 concerts every year, including regular concerts, prefectural arts theaters, and concerts in various places, in an effort to spread and improve the music culture of Chiba Prefecture. In addition, for children who will lead the next generation, we hold "Music Appreciation Classes for Elementary, Junior High and High Schools," a joint project of Chiba Prefecture and municipal boards of education, at about 50 schools every year, and we continue to convey the wonder of music by performing at more than 150 concerts a year, including visiting kindergartens and special needs schools and performing various chamber music. In April 2016, we invited Kazufumi Yamashita as music director and started a new challenge with the "Oragamachi Orchestra." Their fresh and enthusiastic performances have won the support of many Chiba residents, and they are steadily establishing themselves as an orchestra that is familiar and loved by the people of Chiba Prefecture. |
