Detailed Information

Performance content A special stage performance by geiko(geisha) and maiko, who are constantly working hard to improve their skills, is held every spring. This special stage performance comprises three parts. Some of the works are theatrical, and the stories that always have a happy ending are well-received. The second part is a traditional performance where you can enjoy the world of geiko(geisha) and maiko. Kamishichiken Yakyoku is the standard finale song, and the geikos wearing matching black crests and cute maikos wearing contrastingly colorful kimonos complete the event with a dance. The 80-minute tour is sure to make your Kyoto experience even more memorable.

Organizations Overview Kami Shichiken, the oldest Kagai in Kyoto, is said to have originated in 1444, when a part of the Kitano Tenmangu Shrine was destroyed by fire, and seven teahouses were built in front of the shrine using leftover materials when the shrine was rebuilt. Later, when Toyotomi Hideyoshi held the Kitano Grand Tea Ceremony in 1587, this teahouses area was used as a rest area. Hideyoshi was so pleased with the dumplings offered by the teahouses that he granted the teahouses the privilege of selling dumplings and the right to operate teahouses in the whole Kyoto area. This is said to be the beginning of Ochaya(teahouses) in Japan. The emblem of Kamishichiken, "five dumplings," is derived from this famous Mitarashi dumpling.
